Organizational Background:

Private Enterprise Foundation (PEF) is a national center for advocacy and promotion of the private sector. It is a non-political organization founded in 1994 by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) and the Federation of Association of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE).

The Association of Bankers (GAB) and the Ghana Chamber of Mines (GCM) have since attained membership status.

The Foundation however has a working relationship with other trade and business associations such as the Ghana-German Economic Association, Ghana Institute of Engineers (GhIE), Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI), Ghana Association of Women Entrepreneurs (GAWE), Association Building & Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABECE-G), Ghana Poultry Farmers’ Association and Ghana Real Estates Developer’s Association (GREDA).

To service the development needs of the private sector by influencing government policies and regulations in order to create an enabling environment for a private sector-led economic growth strategy and national development.

Vision:

To be the most effective private sector advocacy institution in Ghana

The Foundation

• Provides communication channels and consultation mechanisms for the policy dialogue between the private sector and government;
• Initiates economic and business policy recommendations for government’s consideration;
• Reviews economic policies with a focus on their impact on the private sector; coordinates activities of common interest to member associations and their direct impact on work place operational efficiency.

Such services have strengthened the private sector by improving and sustaining the enabling environment, and hence, they have contributed in accelerating the country’s socio-economic development.
